Painting our laminate countertops

One of my biggest issues with this house when we bought it was how UGLY the kitchen was... I am talking super ugly. Gross brown laminate countertops, black and brown cabinets, and brown vinyl tile flooring. It looked like it had not been touched since the late 80s/early 90s. Since we moved in we took down all the upper cabinets, painted the lower cabinets white, replaced the vinyl with laminate wood flooring and possibly the biggest transformation is when we painted the countertops. Yes, I said painted! Eventually we will replace them with quartz countertops, but that was not in the budget for the time being. I found the Giani countertop paint kit and instantly ordered it once I saw the White Diamond kit and plus, it only costs $79.95! Now I will say that depending on how much countertop space you're planning on painting you might need to order more. I will need to order just a little bit more because I have 42 square feet of countertop space to cover and the kit is only supposed to cover about 35 square feet. It looks great the way it is but I want it a little more white than it is right now. Plus, I will be painting the countertops in our laundry room and in one of our bathrooms with the same stuff.

Once I got the kit (about 5 days after I ordered it) I was so excited to try it out that I immediately began priming without really taping things off as well as I should have (if you don't plan on replacing the sink later on I would take the sink out or just make sure you are super careful when you tape around it) honestly though, I wasn't too worried about taping things off since in about a year or so we are planning on completely redoing the kitchen. The priming took me about an hour and then because I was too excited I only waited about an hour before I started putting on the color. I put on one layer of each coat that same night. All in all it took me about 4 hours once the primer had dried to do one layer of Pearl Mica, Inca Gold, and White Limestone. Once I started putting the limestone on is when I noticed that this was actually going to look AWESOME! In the morning I put maybe two or three layers of the White Limestone on and ended up running out, which is why I need to order more. But let me tell ya, it looks sooooooo much better than it did before. I probably should of waited the allotted time in between the primer and the first coat of Pearl Mica, but honestly I didn't notice any smudging or anything. I haven't sealed it yet either since I am waiting to order more and haven't had any problems with wear and tear. I just use my Honest Multi-Surface cleaner on it and haven't had any problems with that either... however, I don't know how it would react with a cleaner that has harsher chemicals in it.

Call it a blonde moment, but I totally blanked on taking a before picture of the countertops... something I have noticed that I am really bad at. I am working on it though! Anyway, just imagine ugly, UGLY brown countertops and you basically got the idea. This is what it looked like after I was done with it (YAAAAAY!) and I'll let y'all decide what you think.

Also, here is the link to the kit that I bought

I promise that I will post before and after pictures of the whole kitchen very, very soon!
